Then and Now

A New Post From Tracie Pippenger http://GlobalEyeImages.com/portfolio/tracielouisephotography

Having just got myself a new iPhone4, I have been thinking lately about the amazing changes in technology and how differently we do things today, from the not so long ago past.

I love technology. From my Kindle, to my iPod. From my Macbook to my TomTom. And lets not forget the difference that the digital age has made to photography itself.

But it does make you wonder…. where is this all leading?

Around the Harbours – Stornoway

A New Post From Michaela Perryman http://GlobalEyeImages.com/portfolio/MPerryman

Photos taken around the harbour area of Stornoway on Isle of Lewis off the west ocast of Scotland. Stornoway was originally a Viking settlement and developed around its well sheltered natural harbour. Reflecting this, the name Stornoway itself is derived from 'Stjórnavágr', an Old Norse word for 'steering bay'. The town's population is around 9,000, making it the largest settlement in the Western Isles (with a third of the population) and the third largest town in the…

The images in this lightbox are all taken around the Harbour in Kirkwall, on the Orkney Islands off the west coast of Scotland and include lifeboats, fishing equipment, anchors, boats and reflections.
Founded around 1035 by Earl Rognvald Brusason, Kirkwall is the administrative centre of Orkney. With its harbour and airport, it is the arrival point for ferries from Shetland and Aberdeen, cruise ships, and flights from the UK, and departure point for ferries to the other islands in Orkney. It…

Trees by streetlight

A New Post From David Guthrie http://GlobalEyeImages.com/portfolio/David.Guthrie

What so much excites me about photography is that it is full of surprises. I seem never to go out on a field trip without something quite unexpected turning up. I can never recall coming back from a photographic expedition without excitement of seeing what I have captured revealed on the Mac.
But equally, occasions of amazing imagery spring on me quite unawares. Like the morning a couple of days ago. My two birmans cats like to make the acquaintance of the early birds which are clearly their…

Isle of Harris

A New Post From Michaela Perryman http://GlobalEyeImages.com/portfolio/MPerryman

The Isle of Harris is joined to the Isle of Lewis; one of the Hebridean Islands off the West coast of Scotland. It is a wild untamed place of sweeping rocky moorlands and long curved beaches. The bedrock is largely Lewisian gneisses and is similar to the rocks found on the mountains of the moon. Parts of the coastal regions are flat and flooded. Sheep graze the moorlands.
The day was heavily overcast with dark brooding clouds and frequent rain, it did not however, hide the wild beauty of…

Visit to a wrecked factory

A New Post From David Guthrie http://GlobalEyeImages.com/portfolio/David.Guthrie

The publisher of "Advent Calls", a book of daily readings and photographic images for Advent and Christmas, has asked for a follow-up volume for the season of Lent, to be published next year. The basic scriptural texts are taken from the book of the prophet Jeremiah and this means the need for some grim and gritty pics to match the themes in the text.
I needed a wrecked and burned out building for one of the pics and chose to go to the ruin of the old Southdown Freezing Works in…
