Going Ultra W-I-D-E

I love wide angle lenses. I’ll admit it. There’s nothing like getting right up close and personal with a mountain wildflower. But there’s a lot more to getting a good wide angle shot than just that….

Boat anchorage and marina

A New Post From David Guthrie http://GlobalEyeImages.com/portfolio/David.Guthrie

Over the last few days I have spent time at the Half Moon Bay marina and the Panmure Basin and Wharf yacht anchorage. Both are on the Tamaki river estuary, providing wonderful facilities for small craft. Auckland's Waitemata harbour and the Hauraki Gulf comprise one of the most fabulous boating environments to be found anywhere in the world. it is this environment that has nurtured the world-class yachtsmen and women from New Zealand that have come t dominate the Americas cup and other…

Masking with your Hand for Shooting into the Sun

I wrote recently that shooting into the sun can be tricky business. But if you use your hand to block out the sun itself it gets a lot easier. Of course you have to get rid of your hand later somehow to make a useable image. This is where Photoshop comes in….

Log fire for storytelling

A New Post From David Guthrie http://GlobalEyeImages.com/portfolio/David.Guthrie

I am a professional storyteller (my photography I see integrated with that role). I was to tell stories to a cub scout pack on a freezing cold winter night. Their hall was cold, but there was an open fire-place. So we built a blazing fire, turned out he lights and I told stories by the firelight. Then I could not resist turning my camera on the blaze.

The Waxeyes were enjoying an apple and the
Chaffinches made the most of the extra seed.

Queensland’s Montville

A New Post From Tracie Pippenger http://GlobalEyeImages.com/portfolio/tracielouisephotography

I remember when I first moved to Queensland, everyone told me about this little place called Montville, that I absolutely had to visit. Well it took about 5 years before I discovered the incredibly beauty which lies in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, for myself. I have been back several times since… and will continue to visit this incredible part of the world. From shopping, to craft, to fine dining. From hiking, canoeing, sightseeing. Montville has so much to offer.

Please enjoy a…

Waiting for the Shot

Pacific Northwest weather is always somewhat unpredictable. Many of you could probably say the same thing about the weather where you live. Sometimes everything just works to get the shot you are after. Sometimes there’s just no way to get the shot unless you are willing to wait for it….

The adventures of a photographer!

A New Post From David Guthrie http://GlobalEyeImages.com/portfolio/David.Guthrie

Looking at the photograph of a valley of bush (forest) in the middle of a city (this is within reasonable walking distance of the CBD of Auckland City) it is almost unimaginable that one could get lost. From more or less the vantage point from which I took this photo, I followed an ill-defined track that came to a dead-end, but when I tried to retrace my steps I ran into brambles and could'nt find the path by which I had arrived there. I tried making my way to the top of the valley but ran…
